Love and connection

Love Before Loss

Pets play an important role in your life and their loss or anticipated loss can be one of the most difficult events to accept. It's important to find a supportive setting where you can feel safe to process your grief and fears.

I'm afraid to talk about it.

Bereaved pet owners can often be surprised by their intense emotions and may be reluctant to share their feelings or the news of their loss. Although they may feel overwhelmed by their emotions; the fear of having their feelings minimized or invalidated holds them back from sharing the news with their employer, coworker, family or friends. It is important to get support from understanding friends and family and /or find a therapist who can provide you with compassion setting as you go through the grieving process.

How can I get the support I need?

There are many avenues where one can receive positive support. Talk to someone who is also a recent or former pet owner; they will understand your feelings. Join an online or community based support group, as  sharing your experience with other pet parents will help you recover.  If you find yourself needing more support, consider contacting a therapist who specializes in helping bereaved pet owners recover from their loss.
