Love and connection

Love Before Loss

Pets play an essential role in your life, and their loss or anticipated loss can be one of the most challenging events to accept. It's crucial to find a supportive setting where you can feel safe to process your grief and fears.

I'm afraid to talk about it.

Bereaved pet owners can often be surprised by their intense emotions and may be reluctant to share their feelings or the news of their loss. Although they may feel overwhelmed by their emotions, the fear of having their feelings minimized or invalidated holds them back from sharing the story with their employer, coworker, family, or friends.

It is crucial to get support from understanding friends and family and find a therapist who can provide you with a compassionate setting as you go through the grieving process.

How can I get the support I need?

  • Talk to someone who is also a recent or former pet owner; they will understand your feelings.
  • Join an online or community-based support group,https://www.pawschicago.org/events-dog-training/community-events/pet-loss-heal-support-group/
  • Contacting a therapist who specializes in assisting bereaved pet owners to recover from their loss.
